Day Trip to Dunmore East — A Food-First Plan
If you've got one day to spend in Dunmore East and you want the meal to land right, here's the timeline that works.
10am — arrive and orient
Park in the village. Coffee. Twenty minutes wandering the harbour. Get the lay of the village in your head.
11am-1pm — the cliff walk
The Doneraile Walk. Pack a layer; the headland is exposed. 40-60 minutes for the loop, plus stops. You'll come back hungry.
1pm-3pm — the proper sit-down lunch
The Spinnaker Bar is the lunch destination. Walk in if there's a table; ring (051) 383 133 ahead if you want certainty. Order what's on the chalkboard — that's the day's catch. Eat slowly. This is the point of the day.
3pm-5pm — the strand
Counsellor's Strand below the village. Low tide gives the rock pools. Bring a flask. If you've got kids, this hour buys you another.
5pm-7pm — the harbour at golden hour
Back into the village. Walk the harbour with the sun lowering. Photograph the fleet at moorings. The village shop for a tea on the wall.
7pm — onwards or back to The Spinnaker?
If you're staying in Dunmore East, the evening starts now — pint at The Spinnaker, dinner if you've worked up another appetite. If you're driving home, the pre-drive coffee at the bar is the right end to the day.
