Dog-Friendly Deck in Dunmore East
The deck at The Spinnaker Bar, Lower Village, Dunmore East is dog-friendly. Bring your dog, sit harbour-side, and order fresh seafood off the day-boats while your dog settles at your feet. Peter runs the bar and kitchen himself, and he welcomes well-behaved dogs on the outdoor deck. Ring Peter on (051) 383 133 if you're booking a table for Friday or Sunday evening, or if you're bringing a group of six or more.
Why The Spinnaker's Deck Works for Dogs
The deck sits on the harbour. Open air. Your dog can watch the fishing boats, smell the salt, hear the gulls. No carpet, no tight indoor corners. The deck has space between tables, so your dog isn't squeezed against strangers. Peter keeps a water bowl by the door if your dog needs a drink. The atmosphere is relaxed — working harbour pub, not fine dining. Families, walkers, sailors, fishermen. Dogs are part of the scenery here.
Most visitors walk the Doneraile cliff path or Counsellor's Strand before they stop at The Spinnaker. Your dog gets a proper walk, you get a pint and a bowl of mussels, everyone's happy. The deck fills up on sunny weekends when live music plays — check The Spinnaker's Facebook page to see if Ash & Laura are playing this week. Even with a crowd, Peter makes room for dogs on the deck.

Booking and Walk-In Policy with Dogs
Walk-in welcome most days. If you're coming Friday or Sunday evening, or if you're a group of six or more, ring Peter on (051) 383 133. Tell him you have a dog so he can seat you on the deck. Email Peter at spinnakerbardunmore@gmail.com if you prefer, or message him on Facebook. Peter posts this week's hours and any bank holiday changes on Facebook, so check there before you drive down.
Dogs stay on the deck. Not allowed inside the bar or restaurant area — health regulations. Keep your dog on a lead, keep them calm, clean up after them. Peter asks that your dog doesn't bark at other dogs or jump at passing customers. Most dogs who've walked the cliffs or the strand are tired enough to sleep under the table anyway.
Walking Your Dog Before The Spinnaker
Doneraile cliff walk: starts at the top of the village, near the old coast guard station. Two-kilometre loop, mostly flat, some steps. Views over Waterford Harbour, the Hook Peninsula, the Celtic Sea. Takes 30–40 minutes. Your dog can run off-lead in the open sections if recall is solid. Sheep graze nearby, so keep control. The path ends back in the village, five-minute walk to The Spinnaker.
Counsellor's Strand: sandy beach at low tide, stones and rock pools at high tide. Dogs allowed year-round. Park at the strand car park, walk down the slipway. Your dog can swim, chase gulls, sniff seaweed. Ten-minute walk back to the village, straight to the harbour and The Spinnaker's deck. Both walks tire a dog out properly, so they settle when you sit down to eat.
Why Dunmore East Works for Dog Owners
Dunmore East is a working fishing village at the mouth of Waterford Harbour, where the River Suir meets the Celtic Sea. Population around 1,500. Thatched cottages, pastel-painted houses, narrow lanes. No chain pubs, no tourist traps. Fishing boats tie up at the harbour. Day-boats land mackerel, crab, lobster. Lifeboat station at the pier. Sailing club. The village has three beaches, two cliff walks, and fields that run to the sea. Dogs are everywhere.
The Spinnaker Bar sits on the harbour, Lower Village. You can walk from anywhere in Dunmore East and reach it in under ten minutes. Park at the harbour if you're driving — free parking, though it fills fast on summer weekends. Peter is the new owner. He runs the kitchen and the bar himself. Brother-in-law to Mike English, who built this website. Peter grew up around pubs and knows what dog owners need: outdoor seating, no fuss, good food, cold pints. Ring (051) 383 133 to book your table on the deck.

Quick questions
Are dogs allowed inside The Spinnaker Bar?
No. Dogs are welcome on the outdoor deck only, not inside the bar or restaurant. Health regulations don't allow dogs inside where food is served indoors. The deck has full table service, so you get the same menu and drinks without needing to go inside. Keep your dog on a lead and under control on the deck.
Do I need to book a table if I have a dog?
Walk-ins are fine most days. If you're coming Friday or Sunday evening, or if you're a group of six or more, ring Peter on (051) 383 133 to book. Tell him you have a dog so he can reserve a deck table. You can also email Peter at spinnakerbardunmore@gmail.com or message him on Facebook.
Is there a water bowl for dogs at The Spinnaker?
Yes. Peter keeps a water bowl by the door to the deck. If your dog needs water, ask any staff member or let Peter know. Most dogs settle quickly after a walk on the Doneraile cliffs or Counsellor's Strand, and they sleep under the table while you eat.
Can my dog be off-lead on the Doneraile walk?
In the open sections, yes, if your dog has solid recall. Sheep graze near the path, so keep control. The cliff edges have no fencing in places, so use common sense. On Counsellor's Strand, dogs can run off-lead on the beach. In the village and at The Spinnaker's deck, keep your dog on a lead at all times.
