Peter — the new owner — keeps things simple. Your group gets a table by the harbour. He cooks. He pours. You eat fresh seafood chowder for €13.50, mussels in chorizo and sherry for €14, beer-battered fish for €22.50, lamb shank for €27, 8oz striploin for €37. The menu is short because everything comes from local day-boats or Waterford suppliers. No microwave. No frozen prawns.

What's on the Menu

Peter runs a tight kitchen. Starters: prawn cocktail €12, seafood chowder €13.50, mussels €14 with chorizo, sherry, cream and garlic bread, buffalo or BBQ wings €14, Greek salad €11. Mains: beer-battered fish €22.50, seafood pie €23, chicken korma €22 with rice and naan, vegetable korma €20, beef burger €20, lamb shank €27, 8oz striploin steak €37. Pizzas run €13.50 to €21. Sides are €5 — chips, mash, vegetables, salad.

Desserts at €8.95: cheesecake, crème brûlée, strawberry mousse, chocolate orange tart. If you book a Sunday party, Sunday roast runs on the day — check with Peter what he's doing that week.

Location and Getting There

The Spinnaker Bar sits in Lower Village, Dunmore East, County Waterford, right on the harbour where the working boats tie up. Dunmore East is a fishing village at the mouth of Waterford Harbour, about 12 kilometres south-east of Waterford City. Population around 1,500. Thatched cottages. Pastel-painted shopfronts. The River Suir meets the Celtic Sea here.

Drive south from Waterford City on the R684. The village wraps around the harbour in two parts — Upper and Lower. The Spinnaker is Lower Village, harbour-side. Park on the street or in the small car park near the lifeboat station. If you're coming from Cork or Dublin, take the M9 to Waterford, then the R684 south. Taxi from Waterford City costs around €25. You can also arrange a minibus if your group is ten or more — ask your usual driver to drop at The Spinnaker, Lower Village.

December fills up. Fridays and Sundays book first. If you're bringing twelve accountants or eight engineers, give Peter two weeks' notice minimum. He runs the bar and kitchen himself so he needs to plan stock and staffing. Walk-ins work for smaller groups on quieter nights but don't gamble on December walk-ins for eight people.

What Else Dunmore East Offers

If your work party wants to make a day of it, Dunmore East has the Doneraile cliff walk — starts at the western end of the village, runs about 4 kilometres along the cliffs, views over Waterford Harbour and the Celtic Sea. Takes 90 minutes at a walk. Counsellor's Strand is a small sandy beach in a cove, sheltered, good for a post-lunch stroll even in December if the weather holds.

The village has a lifeboat station. Working fishing boats tie up every morning. You'll see trawlers, day-boats, yachts. The harbour is the real thing — diesel, rope, fish boxes, gulls. No marina gloss.

If your group wants to stay overnight, a few B&Bs and holiday lets operate in the village. Peter can't book accommodation but he can point you to local options if you ask. The Spinnaker itself is a day-and-evening venue — food, drink, views. That's the offer.
