Cliff Walk First, Lunch After: the New 1–4pm Menu at the Harbour

The best argument for The Spinnaker's new lunch menu isn't even the food — it's the timing. Lunch runs 1pm to 4pm, every day, which happens to be exactly when you come off the Doneraile cliff path or up from Counsellors Strand wanting something hot and earned.

The morning

Start at the Doneraile walk above the village — cliffs, seabirds, the lighthouse across the bay. Or take the strand: Counsellors when it's calm, Badgers Cove when you want it to yourself. Either way you finish salty and hungry, ten minutes' walk from the harbour, at almost exactly one o'clock. That used to be a problem in Dunmore East. Now it's the plan.

The lunch

Come off the path and order by appetite:

Earned-it hungry: the Dunmore East seafood chowder (€13.50) — salmon, smoked haddock, cod and mussels with brown bread — followed by nothing, because it's a meal.

Sandwich hungry: fresh crab on homemade brown bread (€16) or the smoked salmon version (€12). Both taste like the view.

Just-need-something hungry: a toastie (€6.95) or a hot panini (from €9.50) and a pot of tea on the deck.

Everything comes with a side salad; chips are €5 when the walk justifies them. Full lunch list on the menu page.

The afternoon

You're on the harbour, fed, and it's half two. The deck gets the afternoon sun when there is any; there's live music on the deck some weekends — check Facebook for who's playing. Nobody's rushing you out.

Book a table — go straight to Peter

Peter runs The Spinnaker Bar in Dunmore East — the kitchen and the bar himself — so booking goes direct to him. No app, no fee, no middleman. Lunch runs daily, 1pm to 4pm.

Or message Peter on the Spinnaker Facebook page — he checks it daily.
